ok so the speakers built into my laptop like broke but how do i switch the settings on my computer to play sound from portable speakers that i will plug into the computer?

I have a laptop and have external speakers tat connect to the computer by the headphone jack. I was wondering if the laptop speakers could still be turned on even though the external speakers are hooked up to the system.

They are supposedly PnP however when I connect both the USB and the sound card cord into the computer it does not connect either.
